Savennières est une Petite Cité de Caractère située dans le département de Maine-et-Loire, en région Pays de la Loire.

Sur la rive droite de la Loire, à 15km au sud-ouest d’Angers, la commune de Savennières, s’étend sur une superficie de 21 km2.  Prenant appui sur la Loire, elle présente dans sa partie sud un relief accidenté qui contraste avec celui plutôt plat de sa partie nord et des communes avoisinantes. Adossé à la Loire qui en constitue sa frontière sud, le bourg occupe une position excentrée par rapport au reste de son territoire. Le hameau d’Epiré, deuxième pôle d’habitation avec environ 170 habitants, se trouve distant d’environ 3,5 km en direction d’Angers. Essentiellement résidentiel, il possède néanmoins un restaurant. Entre les deux zones d’habitat, trois coteaux séparés par des vallées perpendiculaires à la Loire et idéalement exposés au soleil accueillent sur une superficie d’environ 180 ha le célèbre vignoble réputé pour ses vins secs, avec ses appellations d’origine contrôlée « Savennières », « Savennières Roche aux Moines » et « Coulée de Serrant ». Le sol, de nature schisteuse, apporte toute sa typicité au vin.

La population de la commune est d’environ 1400 habitants et connaît peu de variations depuis une vingtaine d’années. Le bourg, encerclé par le vignoble classé en appellation d’origine contrôlée, ne dispose pour l’instant que de faibles possibilités d’extension.

Le bourg historique, d’une forte densité, est très ramassé autour de son église, de sa mairie et de son ancien presbytère. L’extension du village n’a été possible que vers le nord. Elle s’est faite à partir des années 70 avec la construction en deux temps de deux lotissements qui ne forment aujourd’hui qu’un seul ensemble.

Depuis 1993, Savennières fait partie, avec 29 autres communes, de la communauté urbaine  « Angers Loire Métropole » qui lui apporte ses services en matière d’assainissement, d’eau potable, d’ordures ménagères, de liaison par autobus vers Angers avec son réseau IRIGO, et de développement touristique par l’intermédiaire de sa structure spécialisée « Destination Angers». En tant que commune ligérienne, Savennières est également incluse dans le vaste ensemble du Val de Loire inscrit depuis 2000 au Patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO.
